The Persian rug has been noted as being an icon and a symbol to the people of Persia also known as modern day Iran. It has also been known as an art and a means of investment. There are many people who have a difficult time seeing the difference between Oriental and Persian rugs.
The Definition of a Persian rug is any rug that is handmade in Persia (a.k.a Iran). Persian rugs have been around for centuries, the word Persian in itself has become synonymous with Iranian rugs. Persian rugs are one of the most collected rugs, because each rug is known to be unique. You can see an example of a Persian rug on the left. This rug is known as a Mashad Persian Rug its origin is Iran and is said to be 40-50 years old.
Like wise the definition of an Oriental rug is any rug that is handmade in Asia or parts of Eastern
Europe. The Oriental rug received its name from its place of origin or it’s maker. Thus Indo Tabriz Oriental rug as seen in the picture on the right, received its name because it was made in India. The Origin of the rug as I stated in India and the rug has been recently made.
